Merseyside medic appointed to the Dr Peter G Milner Fellowship

Dr Jing Ouyang, a foundation doctor at Aintree University Hospital, has been appointed to the Dr Peter G Milner Fellowship for Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The fellowship is funded by a donation from University of Liverpool alumnus Dr Peter Milner, and supports junior doctors in a three month placement in the USA with biotechnology and biomedical businesses.

The fellowship was created by Dr Milner in partnership with Professor Arpan Guha, Head of the Postgraduate School of Medicine at the University.

Delighted

Dr Milner, said: “I was delighted by the field of outstanding applicants for the fellowship and am very glad to be able to offer this opportunity to Dr Ouyang.

“Liverpool gave me a fantastic start in my clinical, research and business career and I am delighted to be able to support this fellowship to boost the next generation of medical innovation.”

Important focus

Professor Guha, said: “Innovation is an important focus for the UK Department of Health and this Fellowship is one of the few that is available in the UK.

“The NHS and healthcare globally faces many pressures, including an aging population, chronic illnesses, rising costs and constrained budgets. These Fellows will accelerate the provision of solutions to these problems.”

After graduating from Liverpool in Biochemistry (1978) and Medicine (1980), Dr Milner completed his postgraduate training at Johns Hopkins Medical School, the University of Virginia and Washington University in St Louis. In addition to his continued academic and clinical work, he is the co-founder of CV Therapeutics, Optivia, ARYx Therapeutics and is currently chairman of Armetheon.
