Lecturers from the Department of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies (CLAS), in collaboration with Tate Liverpool, have organised a series of talks and screenings of politically engaged films from around the world.

Political commitment in World Cinema features films which reflect significant milestones in world cinema and touch on the broader political and social context in which they are made.

Dr Tom Whittaker, Lecturer in Film Studies in CLAS, said: “This is the beginning of an exciting collaboration between Film Studies lecturers at Liverpool and the Tate.

“The films which we showcase in the series show how left-wing values have shaped filmmaking in a number of different national and historical contexts.”
