Students arriving from abroad are offered a free UK sim card and refreshments before being transported to their accommodation

The University of Liverpool will welcome more than 500 students through its Meet and Greet Service at Manchester International Airport, as students from over 25 countries arrive in the UK to start their studies.

As part of the annual welcome activities provided by the Student Recruitment and Student Support teams, the University provides a free airport transfer service for all new international, EU and Study Abroad students.

A team of staff and international student ambassadors will be on hand at the airport to greet students at all three terminals and transport them to their University accommodation.  Students are offered free refreshments and a UK sim card before they depart, as well as the opportunity to sit in groups and meet other students that might be studying on related courses or living in the same accommodation.

”For many students studying with us from overseas, our Meet and Greet Service is the first introduction to the UK, so it is important that they have the opportunity to meet staff and other students that understand what an exciting and challenging time this can be”

Dan Stephenson, Head of International Recruitment at the University, said: “For many students studying with us from overseas, our Meet and Greet Service is the first introduction to the UK, so it is important that they have the opportunity to meet staff and other students that understand what an exciting and challenging time this can be.

“This service is offered as a conclusion to our annual Connect Campaign in which current student representatives are able to contact applicants in the run up to their registration each September.  These students are then able to meet each other at the airport and exchange further advice on how to settle into life on campus.”

Once students have arrived on campus they have a full week of events and exhibitions to take part in, involving departments from across the University, the Guild of Students, and local organisations that introduce students to the city and campus life.

The next Meet and Greet service will run from 13-15th September from 8am to 8pm each day.  All those eligible to use the service will be emailed with a formal invite to register online.  Registrations close on September 9th at midnight UK time.
