‘Dolly the sheep’ scientist to give lecture
Sir Ian Wilmut OBE, FRS, who was part of the team which cloned the first mammal, a lamb named ‘Dolly’, will be giving the first of the Science and Society lectures for 2012.
Dolly was the first clone derived from adult cells and she died in early 2003 at six years old. In 2005, Sir Ian received the licence to clone human embryos for research that may one day help find a cure for motor neuron disease.
The lecture is taking place on Tuesday 17 January at 5.30pm in the Leggate Theatre, Victoria Gallery & Museum. Tickets for the lecture are free, booking is essential at: www.liv.ac.uk/science-and-society.
