BBC North West Political Editor, Jim Hancock, will Chair a debate on devolution and social value in the Liverpool region as part of a public event hosted by the University of Liverpool’s Heseltine Institute.
The Liverpool Social Value Charter was launched in May 2015 and has significant potential to impact upon the local economy. The event aims to consider social value for the city-region at a time of continued public sector retrenchment and issues of poverty, ill-health and unemployment for many communities in the city-region.
Experts will also discuss whether businesses and institutions in the region have the appetite to exploit the social value that exists within the local economy.
Challenging times
Panel members include Hazel Blears, MP for Salford and Eccles; Maggie O’Carroll, Chief Executive of The Women’s organisation; and Clare Dove, Chair of Social Enterprise UK.
Rosie Jolly, Chief Executive Mayoral Lead for Social and Community Enterprise, said: “Devolution for the city region will, without doubt, change the way in which we live and work together, irrespective of what sector we operate in or what community we live in.
“How we capitalise on social value in the context of this new landscape has never been more important, particularly in these economically challenging times.
“We need to carefully consider how we can take responsibility to support our region, to ensure the devolution benefits us all and how we can all play our part in enabling both communities and local business to thrive to create a stronger city region economy.”
The event takes place on Wednesday, 9th December 2015, 6.00pm – 8.00pm at City of Liverpool College, The Learning Exchange, Roscoe Street.
