Members of the public are invited to interact with the latest robotic technologies at a University of Liverpool exhibition on the future of autonomous systems next week.

Part of the Towards Autonomous Robotic Systems (TAROS) conference, the exhibition at the University’s Mountford Hall will feature a series of live demonstrations exploring industry and research in the field of robotics.

Demonstrations include simulations of self-driving cars using Lego robots, pocket-sized drones, a live comet building exercise, using dry ice to show what comets really look like, and a demonstration of the University’s award-winning precision placement robot.

Exciting innovations

Professor Katie Atkinson, Head of the University’s Department of Computer Science, said: “Robotics and autonomous systems are at the centre of a technological revolution which has the ability to transform our economy, our society and our personal lives.

“This exhibition is a great opportunity to find out about the exciting innovations – both large and pocket-sized – which are being developed by scientists at Liverpool and at other organisations.”

Alongside the exhibition, the University will also host a free public lecture by Professor Tony Belpaeme from the University of Plymouth, who will discuss how researchers are working towards robots that can be deployed to provide support in health care, therapeutic settings and education.

The TAROS exhibition is free and open to staff, students and members of the public in Mountford Hall in the University’s Guild of Students on Tuesday, 8 September from 9.30am to 5pm. To register please visit http://taros2015.csc.liv.ac.uk/industry.html

Professor Tony Belpaeme’s lecture on the ‘Friendly Face of Robots’, sponsored by Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), takes place on Tuesday, 8 September at 6pm at the University’s Victoria Gallery & Museum. To register please visit: http://www.taros.org.uk/exhibition.
