Merseyside schools compete in Liverpool Confucius Institute Dragon Boat Race

The Confucius Institute at the University of Liverpool staged the fifth Annual Schools Dragon Boat Race for schools across Merseyside.

Seven schools took part in the competition, with time trials in the morning and finals in the afternoon.

After a hotly contested final, Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy were crowned champions, with King’s Leadership Academy in second and Calderstones High School in third. Mr Pan Jun, Vice Consul for Education from the Chinese Consulate in Manchester and Billy Hui from Radio Merseyside, were on hand to present the winners with their medals and trophies.

Deputy Director of the Confucius Institute, John Tasker, said: “Dragon Boat Racing is a growing sport in the UK and worldwide with its unique combination of traditional culture, sport and teamwork.

“You can see why when you see all the smiling faces today. I’m delighted that the Liverpool Confucius Institute has once again been able to organise this event and give young people across Merseyside the opportunity to learn about Chinese culture, keep fit and have fun.”
