The University of Liverpool has announced the appointment of eight Fellows, as part of its India Fellowship programme.
The programme provides an opportunity for talented early to mid-career researchers from India to carry out research at the University for a period of up to six months.
This is the second round of the Fellowships and forms part of the University’s commitment to strengthening research partnerships with India. Collaboration between the UK and India has doubled over the last six years, with £150 million of co-funded UK-India research.
New opportunities
Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steven Holloway, said: “It is a pleasure to see another cohort of academics arriving on what is becoming an excellent exchange programme. We welcome the opportunity to discuss with colleagues any work they are undertaking in India to help us progress this successful initiative.”
The new Newton Bhabha Fund, as well as the UKIERI programme, will ensure that there are opportunities to develop these relationships over the longer term, contributing to world-leading research at Liverpool and in India.
The Fellows will begin to arrive at the University from May onwards.
The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences will host:
- Dr Devvarta Kumar, from the National Institute for Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore
- Dr Randan Nanda, from the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Delhi
- Professor Ramakrishnan, from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai.
Four researchers will join the Faculty of Science and Engineering:
- Professor Vaidya, from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai
- Srinivasa Rao, from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad
- Professor Sunill, from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur
- Dr Karkari, from the Institute of Plasma Research, Gujarat.
The School of Architecture will welcome Dr Pachuau, from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.
