The University of Liverpool has been shortlisted for a Sustainability Leaders Award 2013.
The awards are given to companies who demonstrate leadership and innovation in embedding sustainable operations within their organisations and have seen a record number of entries.
The University, working with Government water consultants ADSM, have been shortlisted for an award in the ‘Water Management’ category, which recognises excellence in water management.
AquaFund
Project ‘AquaFund’ is a multimillion pound investment fund available to public sector organisations to reduce water consumption and costs. The initiative also provides much needed support to developing countries who suffer extreme water poverty, by donating money for each 1,000 litres of water saved, and since the University’s involvement, the scheme has helped assist over 400,000 people to obtain fresh water and sanitation.
Staff have benefited from the installation of leading-edge water saving equipment across campus, which includes sophisticated reporting and monitoring systems to ensure efficiencies are maintained. The four year project has seen water usage reduce by over 200 million litres and has driven financial savings in excess of £500,000.
Judging panel
The judging panel will be headed by chairman of the Environment Agency Lord Chris Smith and winners will be announced on 21st November.
