Badminton Club members Ben Fielding, Jon Savory, Ste Daley and Dale Hawson must play continuously for 30 hours to break the record

Four University of Liverpool students are attempting to break a world record this week by playing doubles badminton for more than 30 hours.

University Badminton Club members Ben Fielding and Jon Savory, are competing against fellow club members Ste Daley and Dale Hawson in the world record attempt which will see them play badminton for more than 30 continuous hours, with only five minutes every hour to take on water and food.

The attempt on the title of longest doubles badminton marathon is taking place in the University Sports Centre on Thursday 20 June and Friday 21 June.

Commenting on the attempt, team leader Ben Fielding said: “It’s taken a lot of organising and training, and we’ll be aiming to get a good night’s sleep the day before, but it will definitely be worth it when we break the record.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to everybody who has helped us including Green Thumb Lawn Treatment Service and leisurewear supplier ADM who have sponsored the kits.”

The attempt is expected to raise more than £1,000 for Sport Liverpool’s charity of the year Joining Jack.
